Text Ads Dogfood

Posted by Phil Aaronson at 10:01 PM

For those precious few who actually come to my blog, you'll notice I've added a few text ads on the lower right. Why you may ask? It's certainly not for the money. I have no idea how much they will generate, but given the amount of traffic I get, I'll be lucky to fund a regular coffee from Pete's after a month or two. Honestly, I was curious how this text ad thing worked, and I felt like I should be eating a bit more of my own Yahoo! dogfood. So I signed up as a beta site for the Yahoo! Publisher Network. I ask that you bear with my curiosity, and do what you normally do. Ignore them. Click on them. Whatever.

I have Amazon ads (of my choice) on my site, and I tried Google ads, but they were not content-specific enough for me.
Since my site (like yours) is not about revenue I was more interested in whether the ads would be of interest to my readers. I'll try Yahoo! ads (if I'm accepted) and see how they do.

Speaking of not-content-specific engouh, I am finding the current crop of Grand Prix (as in car racing, not bike racing) ads sort of funny.

Good! But they're there, at least for me. In the right side column above the "I Power Blogger" badge thingie.

I think if the Yahoo! ad server's horked you'll see an empty white space instead.

I see the ads too.

As for my trial of Yahoo! text ads, apparently I have been rejected. They didn't even send a "no thanks" email, though.

By the way, your comments are "dated" with a time of day, but no date. Seems sort of useless unless you get a big running discussion going on a particular day. Can you control that or is it just a Blogger thing?

For reference, it was about 3-4 weeks between when I applied and when I received an account.

I changed the comment date format, should be seeing date and times!
